Operetta in three acts. The performance is in Polish with Polish subtitles.
It is difficult to seek sense, logic, or rationality in operetta; after all, that is not its purpose. The same applies to NIGHT IN VENICE; the intricacies of the libretto create improbable and surprising situations, along with often irrational reactions of the characters, bringing humor and entertainment. This classic operetta by the Viennese composer forms, along with THE BAT and THE GYPSY BARON, a masterful trio of the genre. One can find in it everything that is most pleasant for the eyes, ears, and spirit. For the Viennese waltz king, the libretto once again became only a pretext to create sparkling music full of wit, spectacular arias, and impressive ensemble scenes. And all this in the extraordinary scenery of the Venetian carnival with its mystery, elaborate masks, and costumes as if from another world.
Our latest production only emphasizes the joyful character of the piece, and the creators of the Łódź staging seem to play with the possibilities of form, not avoiding at the same time references to classical interpretations and the construction of the stage space of this fantastic operetta.
