Performance

The opera choir, like the philharmonic choir, is a mixed choir. It includes female voices (soprano I and II, and alto I and II) and male voices (tenor I and II, and bass I and II). However, in addition to performing very demanding vocal parts, choir members also have acting and often dancing duties. Sometimes the choir is an additional feature in an opera, creating elaborate ensemble scenes, while at other times it is a crucial element of the performance, as in Giuseppe Verdi's opera *Nabucco*, which features the famous "Va, pensiero" chorus.
