November 11th holds a special place in the hearts of Poles. On this very day, the armistice that officially ended World War I was signed. Thanks to this, Poland—after 123 years of partitions—returned to the map, reclaiming its independence. It was also on this day that Józef Piłsudski arrived in Warsaw, to whom the Regency Council entrusted command of the Polish army.
Today, the National Independence Day is one of Poland's most important state ceremonies, celebrated annually in a solemn and extraordinary way. It is a time for reflection and contemplation, a moment for reconciliation, an opportunity to correct and move past the errors of the past. One of the most fitting ways to celebrate is by spending time together in an atmosphere of joy, understanding, and unity, accompanied by Polish patriotic and folk songs, as well as beloved pieces from Poland's rich operatic and song repertoire.
As the late Jerzy Waldorff—an esteemed writer, music critic, and theorist—famously said, "Music soothes manners," and throughout history, this has proven true, showing that without music, the world would be unbearable. We warmly invite you to this exceptional gathering with music that not only soothes manners but—perhaps most importantly—brings us moments of joy and an opportunity to celebrate this significant holiday together with the artists of the Theatre Choir.
Join us—there will be no shortage of emotions and joy!
The live broadcast will begin at 6:30 PM on the Drzwi do Kultury portal.
The project entitled "Utilizing New Technologies in the Digitization Process of Sheet Music and the Work of the Grand Theatre Choir Artists in Łódź" is supported under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan through a development grant as part of Investment A2.5.1: Program Supporting the Activities of Cultural and Creative Industry Entities to Stimulate Their Growth. Agreement No. 461/KPO.GRANTS/NIMiT/2024.
This endeavor is related to sustainably enhancing the digital and environmental competencies of the employees of the Grand Theatre. The project involves the digitization of sheet music using state-of-the-art equipment and creating conditions for choir artists to use digital sheet music in their performances. As part of the initiative, there will be two events—the Grand Theatre Choir will perform patriotic songs using tablets, celebrating this significant national holiday for Polish society while promoting technological advancement and eco-friendly practices. This will raise local community awareness and encourage knowledge and skill-sharing between the cultural sector and the fields of science and technology. The first performance will take place in the foyer of the Grand Theatre in Łódź on November 11 at 11:00 AM, and the second at St. Lawrence Church in Kutno. The performance will be streamed on the Drzwi do Kultury portal, and the recording will be available on the Theatre’s YouTube channel.
