Poland's opera superstar returns to Łódź!

 

During her participation in Placido Domingo's Operalia competition, Aleksandra Kurzak caught the attention of Peter Mario Katona, who has since recommended her at every opportunity – and he had many to offer!  

 

She made her operatic debut in 1999, performing the role of Susanna in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro at the Wrocław Opera. Two years later, she appeared at the National Opera in Warsaw, performing Hanna in Moniuszko's The Haunted Manor. Her talent and outstanding vocal preparation earned her a spot as a soloist with the International Opera Studio at the Hamburg Staatsoper from 2001 to 2007. In 2004, she made a triumphant debut at New York's Metropolitan Opera as Olympia in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann.  

 

Since then, Aleksandra Kurzak has graced the world’s most prestigious opera stages, including The Royal Opera House in London, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Vienna State Opera, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Opéra Bastille in Paris, and Arena di Verona.  

 

In 2013, she became an ambassador for the Stanisław Moniuszko International Vocal Competition, and in 2015, her role as Fiorilla in Rossini’s The Turk in Italy at The Royal Opera House earned her the International Opera Award in the Readers’ Award category, as well as the Bachtrack Opera Award for Best Female Singer of the Season. These are just a few of the many accolades this extraordinary soprano has received.  

 

We were privileged to host Aleksandra Kurzak on our stage on March 19, 2021, when she performed Giuseppe Verdi’s Don Carlos in concert with her husband, Roberto Alagna. The audience's applause was endless!  

 

And now, we are confident that the reaction will be no different. This time, her repertoire will include selected arias from Puccini's operas.
