On the 100th anniversary of regaining the independence, we’d like to present a prominent opera singer, a great patriot, a woman, to whom the numerous tributes were paid by composers, politicians and kings as well.
From December 4 until January 5, 2019 in the Chamber Stage of the Lodz Grand Theatre you can see the exhibition named:
Marcella Sembrich-Kochańska

The polish woman – artist of the world

The authors of the exhibition: Małgorzata Komorowska, Juliusz Multarzyński
The exhibition was based on the materials of the collections of The Marcella Sembrich Memorial Association, Sembrich Opera Museum, Bolton Landing, NY USA, Theatre Museum in Warsaw and private collections.
Over the years of her artistic activity, she had a mission of spreading the polish culture throughout the world. Since 1880 she had been singing in polish a Chopin’s composition called “Wish” and playing piano at the same time. At every chance she got, Marcella insisted on including this part to opera performances, considering this as a symbol of a polish unity. Even though there was officially no State of Poland, the national spirit was floating above the stage every time, when Marcella was singing.
