Pyotr Tchaikovsky is without a doubt the most European of all the 19th century Russian composers. Most of his stage works – both operas and ballets – were inspired by Western European literature. The exception from the rule is his opera EUGENE ONEGIN. Its libretto was based on the Alexander Pushkin's poem and organized by the composer himself.
It is one of the most beautiful operas in the world of literature, which tells the story of a disregard for happiness encountered in the form of a beloved person, which often happens in our lives. The title character, bored with life, goes to the countryside, where he rejects the genuine love of the young Tatiana. However, after many years, he meets her again and falls in love with her – but it is already too late for this love.
The opera owed its immediate success to the ideal fusion of music and Pushkin’s text, brought by the composer himself to perfection. The work is woven from lyrical musical phrases, refined rhythmical smoothness and rich melodic invention, which causes it to be received as an opera evergreen.
