23rd Lodz Ballet Festival 2015

Lodz Ballet Festival was the first international ballet festival held in Poland. The first festival took place in 1968 in the Lodz Grand Theatre, a year after the Theatre's opening. It was created by the then General Director Stanisław Piotrowski, Zygmunt Latoszewski - Artistic Director and the Ballet Director, Witold Borkowski. Since its beginning the festival has been a biennial event, where new contemporary trends have been presented along the most renowned choreographies.
Lodz Ballet Festival quickly became one of the finest dance events in Europe. Some of the greatest ballet artists of the 20th century performed during the festival. These were, among others, Maurice Béjart, John Neumeier, Jiří Kylián, Hans van Manen and Alicia Alonso.
During the 40 years since the first Festival, all prominent ballet companies from all over the world have performed in the Lodz Grand Theatre. This included Ballet du XX Siecle, Ballet Rambert, Cullberg Ballet, Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater, Batsheva Dance Company, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, ISO Dance Theatre, Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Bolshoi Ballet and all Polish ballet companies.
The Lodz Ballet Festival is the only biennial event in Poland, during which the audience, both Polish and foreign, can admire such versatile ballet art and diverse aesthetics and techniques.
